lacrimal gland

The gland that secretes tears. It consists of 6-12 separate compound tubuloalveolar serous glands. It is located in the upper lateral part of the orbit. It is partially divided into the pars palpebralis (smaller) & the pars orbitalis (larger) by the aponeurosis of the levator palpebrae superioris. Innervation: lacrimal nerve
