kinesin family member C1 (Kifc1, kinesin-like protein 2, kinesin-related protein HSET, KIFC1, HSET, KNSL2)

Function: - minus end-directed microtubule-dependent motor required for bipolar spindle formation - may contribute to movement of early endocytic vesicles - binds NUBP1 & NUBP2 (putative) Structure: - belongs to the kinesin-like protein family, NCD subfamily - contains 1 kinesin-motor domain Compartment: - nucleus (putative) - centrosome, spindle - early endosome - associated with nucleus during interphase, centrosomes in early & spindle in later mitosis (putative) Pathology: - HeLa cells lacking KIFC1 show multipolar mitotic spindles & a defect in chromosome congression & chromosome alignment during mitosis
