Function: - lysosomal L-amino-acid oxidase - highest specific activity with phenylalanine - may play a role in lysosomal antigen processing & presentation L-amino acid + H2O + O2 = a 2-oxo acid + NH3 + H2O2 Cofactor: FAD (putative) Structure: - belongs to the flavin monoamine oxidase family, FIG1 subfamily Compartment: - isoform 1: lysosome (putative) - isoform 2: lysosome (putative) Alternative promoter usage: - uses the promoter of the upstream NUP62 gene & shares the first 2 non-coding exons with NUP62 Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - isoform 1 is primarily found in immune tissues - induced by IL4/interleukin-4 Pathology: - IL4I1 may diminish inflammation & enhance re-myelination in multiple sclerosis [2]
