CD61 (integrin-beta 3, platelet membrane glycoprotein IIIA, GPIIIA, ITGB3, GP3A)

Function: - associates with integrin alpha-2b (CD41) in integrin alpha-2b/beta-3 Expression: - platelets, megakaryocytes Pathology: - defects associated with Glanzmann thrombasthenia - expressed in AML M7, some cases of AML M6 - AML M0 - AML M5 & most AML M6 stain negatively with antibody Laboratory: - HPA-1 type in blood - HPA-4 type in blood - HPA-6 type in blood Comparative Biology: - in vitro & in mice, integrin alpha-V/beta-3 is a marker of breast carcinoma, lung carcinoma, & pancreatic carcinoma - such cells have stem-like properties & are highly resistant to receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as erlotinib - in the unbound state, integrin alpha-V/beta-3 recruits KRAS & RalB to the tumor cell plasma membrane, leading to activation of TBK1 & NF-kappaB
