insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 2; IBP-2; IGF-binding protein 2; IGFBP-2 (IGFBP2, BP2, IBP2)

Function: - IGF-binding proteins prolong the half-life of the IGFs - they either inhibit or stimulate the growth promoting effects of the IGFs on cell culture - they alter the interaction of IGFs with their cell surface receptors - inhibits IGF-mediated growth & developmental rates - binds IGF2 more than IGF1 - predominate form of IGF binding protein found in human & rat CSF & CNS is IGF-BP2 with 3 N-terminal amino acids truncated Structure: - O-glycosylated - C-terminus is required for IGF-binding & growth inhibition - contains 1 IGFBP N-terminal domain - contains 1 thyroglobulin type-1 domain Compartment: secreted
