Etiology: hypertension Laboratory: - urine protein: proteinuria - serum creatinine may be elevated Management: 1) ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor antagonist - lower intraglomerular pressure - decrease proteinuria, especially in diabetics 2) Ca+2 channel blockers, diltiazem & verapamil preferable to dihydropyridines 3) target blood pressure a) < 139/80 for chronic renal insufficiency b) < 125/75 for proteinuria > 1 g/day
