hyperlipasemia

Etiology: 1) pancreatitis a) serum lipase tends to become elevated at the same time, if not earlier, than serum amylase in patients with acute pancreatitis b) it remains elevated for about 7-10 days, rarely > 14 days c) a prolonged increase of serum lipase suggests a poor prognosis or the presence of a pancreatic cyst 2) intestinal ischemia 3) intestinal obstruction 4) duodenal ulcer 5) ketoacidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis 6) celiac disease 7) macrolipasemia 8) head trauma, intracranial mass 9) renal failure 10) pharmaceutical agents: a) in vivo effects - cholinergic agents, ethanol, narcotics b) chemical interferences - bilirubin
