hydrometrocolpos

Etiology: - imperforate hymen (most common) - also involves the upper portion of the vaginal vault - vaginal stenosis / transverse vaginal septum - lower vaginal atresia - cervical stenosis - McKusick-Kaufman syndrome Pathology: - expanded fluid filled vaginal cavity with associated distension of the uterine cavity Clinical manifestations: - may present in infancy with a lower abdominal mass, or be delayed till menarche Radiology: - computed tomography of the pelvis & abdomen
