hyaluronate gel for joint injection (Hyalgan, Hylan G-F, Sinvisc-One)

Indications: - osteoarthritis (viscosupplementation) {no benefit [2,4]} {minimal benefit [3]} Contraindications: - 3 injections may provide lubrication to joint but not rapid pain relief Dosage: 1) Hyalgan: 5 intra-articular injections over 4 weeks 2) Hylan G-F: 3 intra-articular injections over 2 weeks Notes: - 15% of patients who undergo total knee arthroplasty receive at least one hyaluronate gel knee injection [5] - mean number of injections/patients = 3.6
