host cell factor-binding transcription factor Zhangfei; HCF-binding transcription factor Zhangfei (CREBZF, ZF)

Function: 1) activates transcription when bound to HCFC1 2) suppresses the expression of HSV proteins in cells infected with the virus (HCFC1-dependent) 3) suppresses the HCFC1-dependent transcriptional activation by CREB3 & diminishes the amount of CREB3 in the cell 4) down-regulatea expression of some cellular genes in ZF-expressing cells 5) interacts with HCFC1, causing suppression of CREB3 transcriptional activity Structure: - belongs to the bZIP family, ATF subfamily - contains 1 bZIP domain Compartment: - nucleus - colocalizes at punctate nuclear structures with CREB3 & HCFC1 Expression: - in adults, expressed in heart, liver, skeletal muscle > kidney, pancreas >> lungs - in fetal tissues, expressed most in kidney > heart, lung, live Named after a legendary Chinese warrior who was contemporary with Luman in around 220 AD
