HIV1/hepatitis C-coinfection
Laboratory:
- normal serum ALT not associated with less extensive hepatic fibrosis (in contrast to patients with only HCV) [1]
Complications:
- increased risk for progression of hepatitis B & hepatitis C in patients with HIV1 infection
- increased risk for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma [3]
Management:
1) referral to GI for biopsy
2) referral for HCV treatment
3) lamivudine protective against liver-related deaths [2]
