obestatin (hexarelin)

Function: - may be the ligand for GPR39 - may have an appetite-reducing effect resulting in decreased food intake - may reduce gastric emptying activity & jejunal motility - effects are not synergistic with ghrelin Structure: - amidation of Leu-98 is essential for obestatin activity Expression: - derived from same precursor, appetite regulating hormone, as ghrelin - effects are probably synergistic with GHRH
