hepatitis B surface antigen in serum (HBsAg)
Indications:
- hepatitis B infection, acute or chronic
Clinical significance:
1) rises with HBeAg, but declines later
2) HBsAg indicates HBV infection, acute or chronic
3) with development of immunity HBsAg disappears prior to disappearance of HBcAb IgM
