Haplotype Map (HapMap)

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) mark a particular spot on the genome. The SNPs are inherited along with the genes close to them. Thus, if a particular SNP is associated with a disease, nearby genes may be associated with the disease. The HapMap may greatly facilitate our understanding of the molecular basis of disease.
