neuropeptide FF receptor 2; G-protein coupled receptor 74; G-protein coupled receptor HLWAR77; neuropeptide G-protein coupled receptor (NPFFR2, GPR74, NPFF2, NPGPR)

Function: - receptor for NPAF (A-18-F-amide) & NPFF (F-8-F-amide) neuropeptides, also known as morphine-modulating peptides - can also be activated by a variety of naturally occurring or synthetic FMRF-amide like ligands. - mediates its action by association with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-Ca+2 second messenger system Structure: - belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family Compartment: - cell membrane; multi-pass membrane protein Alternative splicing: named isoforms=4 Expression: - isoform 1 a) abundant in placenta b) highly expressed in thymus, testis, & small intestine c) expressed at low levels in several tissues including spleen, prostate, brain, heart, ovary, colon, kidney, lung, liver & pancreas d) not expressed in skeletal muscle & leukocytes - isoform 2 a) expression is highest in placenta (relatively low level compared to isoform 1) b) very low level of expression in other tissues including adipose tissue & many brain regions - isoform 3 is expressed in brain & hear > kidney, liver, lung & pancreas
