G-protein coupled receptor family C group 5 member B; A-69G12.1; retinoic acid-induced gene 2 protein; RAIG-2 (GPRC5B, RAIG2)

Function: - unknown - retinoic acid-inducible G-protein coupled receptor Structure: - belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 3 family Compartment: - cell membrane - cytoplasmic vesicle membrane - localized in the plasma membrane & perinuclear vesicles - multi-pass membrane protein Expression: - expression in kidney, pancreas, testis > brain, heart, prostate, small intestine, & spleen > liver, placenta, skeletal muscle, colon, ovary, & thymus - not detectable in lung & peripheral leukocytes [3] - highly expressed in most brain areas - highest levels observed in corpus callosum, caudate nucleus, putamen, substantia nigra, thalamus, hippocampus - expressed in spinal cord & in dorsal root ganglia - in the periphery, expression levels are relatively low, compared to the CNS (this contrasts with statement above) - strongest expression detected in pancreas, testis, uterus, & stomach - induced by all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) Note: - uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-9 is the initiator - GPRC5B may provide evidence for interaction(s) between retinoid(s) & G-protein signaling pathway(s)
