glypican-6 (GPC6)
Function:
- cell surface proteoglycan that bears heparan sulfate
- cell surface coreceptor for growth factors, extracellular matrix proteins, proteases & anti-proteases (putative)
Structure: belongs to the glypican family
Compartment:
- cell membrane; lipid-anchor
- GPI-anchor extracellular side (putative)
- secreted, extracellular space (putative)
Expression:
- widely expressed
- high expression in fetal kidney & lung
- lower expressions in fetal liver & brain
- in adult tissues
- very abundant in ovary
- high levels also observed in liver, kidney, small intestine & colon
- not detected in peripheral blood leukocytes
