Uses: 1) peptic ulcer disease 2) upper respiratory tract inflammation 3) pharyngitis 4) laxative Contraindications: 1) pregnancy 2) liver disease 3) hypokalemia Dosage: 1) 1-4 grams of dry root 2) 1 cup of tea TID Adverse effects: - pseudoaldosteronism a) hypertension b) lethargy c) Na+ retention & H2O retention (edema) d) hypokalemia - 2 oz. a day for >= 2 weeks [2] Drug interactions: 1) antihypertensive agents 2) diuretics 3) digoxin
