glycophorin-A; PAS-2; sialoglycoprotein alpha; MN sialoglycoprotein; CD235a (GYPA, GPA)
Function:
- major intrinsic membrane protein of the erythrocyte
- the N-terminal glycosylated segment, which lies outside the erythrocyte membrane, has MN blood group receptors
Structure: belongs to the glycophorin A family
Compartment: membrane
Polymorphism:
- along with GYPB, GYPA is responsible for the MNS blood group
Pathology:
- putative receptor for influenza virus.
