glutamate receptor epsilon-1; N-methyl D-aspartate receptor subtype 2A; NMDAR2A; hNR2A; NR2A (GRIN2A, NMDAR2A)

Function: - NMDA receptor subunit - high Ca+2 permeability - voltage-dependent sensitivity to Mg+2 - activation requires binding of agonist to both types of subunits - forms heteromeric channel of a) zeta subunit (GRIN1) b) epsilon subunit (GRIN2A, GRIN2B, GRIN2C or GRIN2D) c) 3rd subunit (GRIN3A or GRIN3B) - found in a complex with GRIN1 & GRIN3B - found in a complex with GRIN1, GRIN3A & PPP2CB - interacts with PDZ domains of AIP1, INADL & DLG4 - presumptive phosphorylation by PKC Structure: - belongs to the glutamate-gated ion channel (TC 1.A.10) family Compartment: - cell membrane - cell junction, synapse, postsynaptic cell membrane Expression: mRNA widely distributed.
