folate receptor gamma; FR-gamma; folate receptor 3 (FOLR3)

Function: - binds to folate & reduced folic acid derivatives - mediates delivery of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate to the interior of cells - isoform short does not bind folate Structure: - 8 disulfide bonds are present (probable) - belongs to the folate receptor family Compartment: secreted Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - expressed in spleen, thymus, bone marrow, Pathology: - expressed in ovarian carcinoma, & uterine carcinoma Note: - may be produced at very low levels due to a premature stop odon in the mRNA, leading to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay
