Function:
- it provides passage for lymphatics passing from lower limb to trunk & facilitates expansion of the adjacent femoral vein when it expands during a Valsalva maneuver
Structure:
- medial compartment of the femoral sheath, occupied by an inguinal lymph node (of Cloquet)
Pathology:
- herniation of pelvic contents through the femoral canal results in an femoral hernia
