Flex, ABduct, & Externally Rotate (FABER) test
Indications:
- hip pain
- sacroiliitis
- greater trochanteric pain syndrome
Procedure:
- Flex, ABduct, & Externally Rotate hip
- either hip is flexed, abducted & externally rotated with downward pressure to the knee reproducing the pain
Interpretation:
- hip pain or limited range of motion consistent with sacroiliitis
- buttock pain suggets sacroiliac joint dysfunction
- groin pain suggest intra-articular hip joint cause of pain
- lateral hip pain suggests greater trochanteric pain syndrome
