eventration of diaphragm

Etiology: - congenital anomal Pathology: - incomplete muscularization of the diaphragm with a thin membranous sheet replacing normal diaphragmatic muscle - the region stretches & on inspiration does not contract normally - frequently occurs in the anteromedial portion of the right hemidiaphragm [1] - complete eventration almost invariably occurs on the left side; it is rare on the right [2] Radiology: - elevation of the affected portion of the diaphragm is usually seen as a smooth hump on the normal contour of the hemidiaphragm Differential diagnosis: - diaphragmatic paralysis
