Function: 1) transcriptional activator 2) role in regulating later stages of keratinocytes terminal differentiation 3) isoform 2 binds to DNA sequences containing consensus nucleotide core sequence GGA[AT] 4) transcriptionally activates SPRR2A & parotid gland-specific PSP promoters Structure: - belongs to the ETS family - contains 1 ETS DNA-binding domain - contains 1 PNT domain (pointed domain) - PNT domain acts as a transcriptional activator Alternative splicing: named isoforms=3 Expression: - expressed in tissues with epithelial cells - expressed in salivary gland, mammary gland, kidney, prostate > placenta, lung - isoforms 1 & 2 are differentially expressed in different tissues - in kidney, only isoform 1 is expressed in prostate, isoform 2 > isoform 1 - expression is up-regulated during keratinocyte differentiation Pathology: - several epithelial carcinoma cell lines lack expression
