Uses: - used chelated to samarium Sm-153 samarium for treating pain of metastatic bone lesions Mechanism of action: - EDTMP complexed to samarium produces a bisphosphonate complex that concentrates in areas of bone turnover - lesion to normal bone accumulation is ~5 - Sm-153 produces short range beta particles preferentially irradiating cells close to the EDTMP-samarium complex
