ergonovine (Cornocentin, Metriclavin)

Ergonovine maleate. Indications: 1) provoking coronary vasospasm in patients with suspected Prinzmetal's angina 2) prophylaxis for migraine a) when amitriptyline & propranolol contraindicated b) 0.2 mg IV/IM (PO ?) BID 3) hemorrhage, postpartum hemorrhage [3] Dosage: 0.2 mg/mL for injection. Adverse effects: 1) hypertension 2) nausea/vomiting 3) chest pain 4) dizziness Mechanism of action: 1) partial agonist or antagonist at alpha-adrenergic, dopaminergic & serotonin receptors 2) produces vasoconstriction mainly of capacitance vessels
