Indications: - evaluation of hypogonadism Reference interval: - male: 0.5-2.0 ug/24 hours - female: 0.2-1.5 ug/24 hours Clinical significance: - weak androgen derived primarily from metabolism of epitestosterone - produced in an inverse relationship with androsterone, a potent androgen - excreted into the urine as conjugated & unconjugated derivatives - elevated levels occur in patients with elevated androgen precursors but low androgen levels - males with hypogonadism often have elevated levels of epiandrostrone Specimen: urine Method: - GC/MS
