eotaxin; C-C motif chemokine 11; eosinophil chemotactic protein; small-inducible cytokine A11 (CCL11, SCYA11)

Function: - chemotactic for eosinophils - promotes accumulation of eosinophils response to allergens - binds to CCR3 Structure: - O-linked glycan - consists of a gal-galNAc disaccharide which mofified with up to 2 sialic acid residues - belongs to the intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family Compartment: secreted Expression: - induced by TNF, IL1A/interleukin-1 alpha & IFNG/IFN-gamma - levels increase in blood & CSF with age (in humans) [4] Laboratory: - CCL11 in CSF may be a marker for chronic traumatic encephalopathy Comparative biology: - may inhibit learning, memory, & neurogenesis during aging in mice [4]
