Indications:
- positive values present in 70-80% of patients with:
a) celiac disease*
b) dermatitis herpetiformis
* rule out celiac disease prior to diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome [3]
Normal range: negative
Clinical significance:
- IgA antibody has sensitivity, specificity & positive predictive value of 95% for celiac sprue
Specimen: serum; store at -20 degrees C
Method: monkey esophagus is used as tissue substrate
