Elliotts B Solution (buffered intrathecal electrolyte/dextrose injection)
Indications:
- meningeal leukemia or lymphocytic lymphoma
- used as a diluent with intrathecal methotrexate &/or cytarabine
Dosage:
- intrathecal administration
Mechanism of action:
- comparable to cerebrospinal fluid in pH, electrolyte composition, glucose content, & osmolarity
- maintains the pH of methotrexate sodium & cytarabine closer to physiologic pH & provides a buffer capacity not found in other diluents
