Function: - specific electron acceptor for several dehydrogenases a) 5 acyl-CoA dehydrogenases b) glutaryl-CoA dehydrogenase c) sarcosine dehydrogenase - transfers electrons to the main mitochondrial respiratory chain via ETF-ubiquinone oxidoreductase (ETF dehydrogenase) Structure: - heterodimer of an alpha & a beta subunit Compartment: - mitochondrial matrix Expression: - abundant in liver, heart & skeletal muscle - weak expression is seen in the brain, placenta, lung, kidney & pancreas
