G-protein coupled receptor 183; EBV-induced G-protein coupled receptor 2 (GPR183, EBI2)
Function:
- orphan receptor
- probable mediator of normal lymphocyte functions
- signals constitutively through Gi-alpha, but not Gs-alpha or Gq-alpha
Structure: belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family
Compartment: cell membrane
Expression:
- expressed abundantly in lymphoid tissues including spleen & lymph node, & in B- & T-lymphocytes
- also highly expressed in lung, heart, gastrointestinal tract
- weakly expressed in urogenital system & brain
- induced by EBV
Pathology:
- probable mediator of EBV effects on B lymphocytes
Note:
- uncertain whether Met-1 or Met-5 is the initiator
General
G-protein coupled receptor; serpentine receptor
