Durkan maneuver; carpal compression test

Indications: - evaluation of carpal tunnel syndrome Procedure: - firm digital pressure across the carpal tunnel to reproduce symptoms - press thumbs over carpal tunnel & hold pressure for 30 seconds - onset of pain or paresthesia within 30 seconds in the distribution of the median nerve is a positive test Clinical significance: - 64% sensitive, 83% specific for carpal tunnel syndrome [1] - 87-91% sensitivie, 90-95% specific [2]
