Adverse effects: 1) anorexia 2) nausea/vomiting 3) dizziness 4) dyskinesia a) usually choreiform movements b) effect is dose dependent c) generally occurs after prolonged therapy 5) psychosis a) visual hallucinations b) vivid nightmares c) paranoid delusions 6) impulse control disorders [6,7] 7) compulsive behavior - punding [5] - gambling, shopping, hypersexuality [3] 8) dementia 9) depression 10) excessive daytime sleepiness & sleep attacks [2] 11) sedation [5] 12) peripheral edema 13) adverse effects are dose-dependent & minimized by slow titration 14) abrupt withdrawal of dopamine agonists has been associated with a syndrome resembling neuroleptic malignant syndrome or akinetic crises - taper to discontinue [4]
