drebrin; drebrin-1; developmentally-regulated brain protein (DBN1, D0S117E)

Function: - actin-binding protein highly enriched in dendritic spines - regulates dendritic spine morphogenesis prior to formation of postsynaptic densities - drebrin-1 recruits PSD-95 to the post-synaptic density. - forms clusters in dendritic filopodia - drebrins might play some role in cell migration, extension of neuronal processes & plasticity of dendrites - binds F-actin Structure: contains 1 ADF-H domain Compartment: - cytoplasm, highly enriched in dendritic spines Alternative splicing: - named isoforms=2; drebrin E (embryonic form) & drebrin A (adult form) - drebrin A is neuron-specific Expression: - brain, neurons - also found in the heart, placenta, skeletal muscle, kidney & pancreas Pathology: - a decrease in drebin 1 has been reported in brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease & Down syndrome.
