DNA polymerase lambda (DNA polymerase kappa, DNA polymerase beta-2, POLL)
Function:
- repair polymerase
- involved in base excision repair
- responsible for repair of lesions that give rise to apurinic apyrimidinic (AP) sites in DNA
- has both DNA polymerase & terminal transferase activities
- has a 5'-deoxyribose-5-phosphate lyase activity
- binds PCNA
- phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR
Cofactor: Mn+2
Structure:
- belongs to the DNA polymerase type-X family
- contains 1 BRCT domain
Compartment: nucleus
Expression:
- expressed in a number of tissues
- abundant in testis
