Procedure: - examination of superficial skin lesions with a flat piece of glass pressed against the lesion Clinical significance: - lesions that blanch on diascopy: - hemangioma - livedo reticularis - lesions that do not blanch on diascopy: - purpuric lesion caused by necrotizing vasculitis - petechiae - granulomas have an 'apple jelly' appearance
