Tradename: Clarinex.
Indications:
- treatment of allergies
- seasonal allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis
- atopy, urticaria [2]
Dosage: 5 mg PO QD (higher doses NOT more effective)
Tabs: 5 mg
Pharmacokinetics:
-> longer 1/2 life than loratadine
Adverse effects:
- drowsiness (especially at higher doses)
Laboratory:
- desloratadine in blood
- desloratadine in serum/plasma
- desloratadine in urine
Mechanism of action:
1) non-sedating antihistamine (H1 receptor antagonist)
2) the major active metabolite of loratadine
