dermatophilosis (mud fever)
Etiology:
- infections with Dermatophilus congolensis
Clinical manifestations:
- formation of crusty scabs that contain the organism
Laboratory:
- culture
- grows well on sheep-blood enriched agarose media; incubated at a 37 degrees C with 5-10% CO2
- grey-yellow bacteria colonies become visible in 24-48 hours
