Etiology:
1) seronegative arthropathies
a) psoriatic arthritis
b) ankylosing spondylitis
c) reactive arthritis (Chlamydia trachomatis)
d) Reiter's syndrome
2) sickle-cell disease
3) infectious conditions
a) tuberculosis
b) leprosy
c) syphilis
d) gonococcal arthritis
4) sarcoidosis
5) in young children
a) tuberculosis
b) sarcoidosis
c) syphilis
6) elderly
- HLA B-27 associated arthropathies
Pathology:
1) enthesitis
2) inflammation of an entire finger or toe
3) in sickle-cell disease as result of a vasoocclusive crisis with bone infarcts
Clinical manifestations:
1) pain & swelling of inflamed finger or toe
2) one or more involved digits
2) generally chronic condition
Specific
tuberculous dactylitis; spina ventosa
