Function: - corepressor targeting diverse transcription regulators - component of large corepressor complex - role in brown adipose tissue differentiation - isoform 2 - probably acts as a scaffold for specialized synapses - phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR at Thr-179, Ser-181 & Ser-185 - phosphorylation by HIPK2 on Ser-428 induces proteasomal degradation - can form homodimers or heterodimers of CTBP1 & CTBP2 - interacts with HIPK2 & ZNF217 - interacts with PRDM16 - represses white adipose tissue-specific genes expression (putative) - interacts with PNN, NRIP1 & WIZ Structure: - belongs to the D-isomer specific 2-hydroxyacid dehydrogenase family Compartment: nucleus (putative), cell junction, synapse Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - ubiquitous - highest levels in heart, skeletal muscle, pancreas Pathology: - interacts with the C-terminus of adenovirus E1A protein
