ski proto-oncogene protein (c-ski, ski)

Function: - transcriptional corepressor - role in terminal differentiation of skeletal muscle cells but not in the determination of cells to the myogenic lineage - interacts with Smad2, Smad3, & Smad4, but less so with Smad1 & Smad5 - suppresses signaling of GF-beta & bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) through binding to Smad proteins - interacts with HIPK2 - part of a complex with HIPK2 & Smad1/Smad2/Smad3 Structure: belongs to the SKI family Compartment: nucleus
