diagnostic criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

Diagnostic criteria: Criteria for SLE (4 must be present for definitive diagnosis): 1) malar rash 2) discoid lupus, discoid rash 3) oral ulcers or nasal ulcers 4) arthritis (non-erosive arthritis of >= 2 peripheral joints) 5) photosensitivity 6) serositis: pleurisy, or pericarditis 7) neurologic disorder: seizures or psychosis 8) renal disease a) proteinuria > 500 mg/day or 3+ on dipstick, or b) cellular casts 9) hematologic disorder a) hemolytic anemia with reticulocytosis, or b) leukopenia (< 4000/mm3), or c) lymphopenia (< 1500/mm3) d) thrombocytopenia (< 100,000/mm3) 10) immunologic disorder a) anti double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA), or b) anti-Smith (Sm) antigen, or d) anti-phospholipid antibody - false positive test for syphilis 11) antinuclear antibody (ANA) at titer of >= 1:80 must be present [2] European League Against Rheumatism/American College of Rheumatology classification criteria [3]
