right coronary artery (RCA)
Origin: right aortic sinus
Branches:
1) posterior interventricular artery
2) right marginal coronary artery
3) atrioventricular nodal artery
4) sinuatrial artery (90%)
Distribution:
1) right ventricle
2) posterior wall (segment)
3) inferior wall/apex (many, if not most individuals)
4) AV node (90%)
Course:
1) The RCA passes posterior to the pulmonary artery & along the AV groove between the right atrium & right ventricle. Branches from this segment of the RCA supply the free wall of the right ventricle
2) The RCA continues in the AV groove to supply a segment of the posterior wall of the heart.
3) A large posterior descending branch of the RCA may descend to supply the more of the posterior wall & the inferior wall/ apex of the heart.
