Etiology: - corneal dendrites are due to Herpes simplex ophthalmicus Special laboratory: - ophthalmoscopy - examination of the cornea under blue light after fluoroscein staining - dendrites with corneal ulceration Differential diagnosis: - corneal pseudodendrite due to Herpes zoster ophthalmicus - yellow pseudodendrites have a branching appearance & appear stuck on without associated corneal ulceration
