conjugated estrogens (Premarin)/methyltestosterone Estratest

Premarin & methyltestosterone combination. Indications: - moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause in patients not responding to estrogen alone Contraindications: pregnancy-category X safety in lactation - Dosage: 1) 1 tab PO QD for 3 weeks, off for 1 week 2) repeat cycle 0.625 mg of Premarin & 1.25 mg methyltestosterone 0.625 mg of Premarin & 2.5 mg methyltestosterone Pharmacokinetics: Metabolism: liver Adverse effects: 1) see premarin & methyltestosterone 2) increased blood pressure, edema, thromboembolism, depression, headache, chloasma, melasma, breast tenderness, change in menstrual flow, hypercalcemia, nausea/vomiting, cholestatic jaundice Mechanism of action: see premarin & methyltestosterone
