- progenitor cell assay for CFU-GM often used to predict the engraftment time after stem-cell transplantation

- precursor for
- CFU-G, myeloblasts, promyelocytes ... neutrophils
- CFU-M, monoblasts, promonocytes, monocytes, macrophages
