Etiology: - chest trauma - spontaneous pneumothorax Pathology: - intrapulmonary right-left pulmonary shunt - non-ventilated alveoli - hypoxemia difficult to correct with supplemental oxygen Clinical manifestations: - dyspnea Laboratory: - arterial blood gas vs pulse oximetry: hypoxemia Radiology: - chest X ray - triangular opacity above the diaphragm with lower lobe collapse
