colchicine/probenecid (ColBENEMID)
colchicine 0.5 mg, probenecid 0.5 g.
Indications:
- treatment of chronic, recurrent gouty arthritis
Contraindications:
Pregnancy category D
Dosage:
- adults:
1) 1 tab QD for 1 week, then
2) 1 tab BID
Adverse effects:
- not common (1-10%)
- flushing, headache, dizziness, rash, alopecia, anorexia, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, urinary frequency, aplastic anemia, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, hepatotoxicity including hepatic necrosis, myopathy, peripheral neuritis, uric acid stones, nephrotic syndrome, hypersensitivity reactions
